OpenSite/Guides/Select and inspect objects
Read the document tree and property inspector before changing values.

Prerequisites
A document containing objects, such as the practice material lesson. Some actions depend on the object type and available authorization.
Steps
Select in the tree
Expand the document and its groups, then select the intended object. Check that the property panel describes that object. With display geometry available, tree and viewport selection are synchronized.
Read identity correctly
The display label, unique internal name, object ID and a material’s display number are different things. A familiar label alone is not a safe script reference. See OpenSite/Concepts/Documents and identity.
Inspect before editing
Read the property name, type, unit, applicability and read-only state. A derived field is not necessarily an editable input. An unavailable object can be preserved without its provider being able to calculate it.
Use contextual actions
Right-click an object to see actions contributed for that object type. Material actions are documented under OpenSite/Guides/Use Material Manager. A grey action is not permission to force a different operation.
Rename and delete deliberately
The generic Rename action uses the display-label workflow; changing a label does not reassign identity. Delete depends on support and authorization and can be disabled. For materials, inspect usage before using the material-specific Delete action.
Expected result
You can identify the selected object and distinguish an editable input from a derived or unavailable value.
Limitations
The reviewed user interface does not establish arbitrary drag-and-drop grouping or a general-purpose model-authoring tool.
