OpenSite/Guides/Recover linked and unavailable objects
Recognize unresolved links and preserved extension data without destroying the original file.

Prerequisites
A backup of the document and, where relevant, access to its referenced document or original compatible extension.
Steps
Stop before overwriting the only copy
Retain the original file. Record the application build and the message or placeholder shown. Do not delete an unfamiliar object simply because it cannot currently be displayed.
Understand the missing dependency
A cross-document link refers to document and object identities, not just a filename. A plugin object can be preserved when its provider is unavailable; preservation is not proof that the object can recompute.
Open the intended target document
Link recovery works with open documents. Open the actual referenced document with the matching identity. The application does not promise to search arbitrary disk locations by a remembered source path.
Restore the compatible provider when needed
Use the extension version compatible with the file/host and follow OpenSite/Guides/Manage extensions. Do not substitute a differently named object or edit the saved IDs by hand.
Recheck and save a new copy
Inspect the link/object status and dependent results. Save to a separate destination after confirming recovery. If it remains unresolved, include both build identifiers and a minimal reproducible document in a support request, after removing confidential data.
Expected result
The original data is retained, and a recovered link is distinguished from an unresolved placeholder.
Limitations
Opening a document with a missing provider does not supply the missing computation. Automatic path search and autosave recovery are not implemented.
