Application and workspace
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Document | Engineering data with a persistent identity and a path once saved. |
| View/tab | A presentation of a document, script or plot in the central area. |
| Active document | The engineering document targeted by document-scoped commands; check context before editing. |
| Workbench | A graphical command environment such as Start or Python; switching does not close shared views. |
| Plugin/extension | A package contributing code, services or UI; it can be native, Python or mixed. |
| Macro/script | Python source executed by the embedded host. |
Data and identity
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Label | A human-readable display name. |
| Internal name | A document-scoped unique identifier-style name, distinct from label and object ID. |
| Object ID | Persistent object identity used by references. |
| Material number | A display/organizational material number; renumbering is not a new object identity. |
| Property | A typed value or supported expression associated with an object. |
| Derived value | A result calculated from inputs, not an independently editable contradictory input. |
Quantities and computation
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Quantity | A physical value with a dimension; canonical values are stored in SI. |
| Unit profile | Presentation preferences for input/output units and number formatting. |
| Formula | Restricted unit-aware expression language. |
| Python expression | Trusted Python evaluated through the shared interpreter under explicit document rules. |
| Recompute | Evaluate dependencies through the available model services; not necessarily a solver run. |
| Validation | A check with a defined scope; material record validation is not design-code approval. |
Files and availability
An unresolved link lacks its matching target in the available documents. An unavailable provider placeholder can retain data without supplying computation. A development host is an explicit developer authorization mode, not an application licence. See OpenSite/File formats and OpenSite/Licensing.
