Prerequisites
An authorized desktop development package. Use a new practice document. Python is not required for the first four steps.
Steps
Open the workspace
Start opensite-desktop.exe. Locate the workbench selector, object panel, property panel and central tabs. Read OpenSite/Workspace tour.
Create a document
Choose File → New. A new document is local data, not a solved structural model. If no geometry is displayed, this does not mean that creation failed.
Identify the active document
Select its central document tab or activate it from the object tree. Selecting a script or plot tab is a different view context. Confirm the intended document before using document commands.
Save a practice file
Choose File → Save As and select a new filename ending in .osdoc in your practice folder. Confirm that no error is reported. Close and reopen the saved file with File → Open.
Explore one useful next task
Try OpenSite/Guides/Use Material Manager to add practice material data, or OpenSite/Guides/Use Python Console for a small quantity calculation. A new blank document is not expected to contain a bridge, mesh or section-design library.
Close deliberately
If changes exist, read the Save/Discard/Cancel prompt. Cancel keeps the document open. Do not discard changes merely to clear a prompt.
Expected result
You can identify the active document, save it to a known location and reopen it.
Limitations
The current desktop is a development platform. The empty viewport does not supply an analysis workflow.
