OpenSite/Guides/Set preferences
Change application presentation settings and understand user versus document scope.
- Stable identifier
opensite.help.set-preferences
Prerequisites
The Windows desktop development build. The headless settings service is documented separately.
Steps
Open the correct scope
Edit → Preferences changes user preferences. Edit → Document settings applies permitted overrides to the active document.
Find a setting
Search the preferences pages. Language, country, unit profile and standards package are independent choices.
Apply or cancel
Use Apply to validate/store the pending set; OK also closes the window. Cancel drops unapplied edits and restores a previewed theme.
Handle a conflict
If an external edit changed a pending key, reload before applying. Restore defaults removes the current scope’s override; it is not a global reset of every document.
Check persistence
Close and reopen the preferences window. For user persistence, reopen the desktop with the same settings file and confirm the saved value.
Expected result
Accepted user settings are retained; cancelling unapplied changes leaves stored values unchanged. Quantity-profile changes affect presentation, not canonical SI.
Limitations
Preferences are not a credential store. Engineering tolerances and safety limits are not general appearance preferences. Only schema-supported settings have document overrides.
